Mansfield Community First Responders

Welcome to the website of the award winning Mansfield Community First Responder Team.

We are members of the Community who volunteer to respond to Emergency Calls through the 999 system in conjunction with East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust. Community First Responders (CFR’s) & Medical First Responders (MFR’s) provide professional emergency care to patients in their local area before the arrival of an Ambulance.

Our CFR’s and MFR’s are trained to deliver Life Saving intervention to seriously ill patients and defibrillation to those in Cardiac Arrest. Other calls our CFR’s & MFR’s would attend include;

  • Cardiac Arrest
  • Heart Attack
  • Stroke
  • Fitting
  • Unconsciousness
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Paediatric Patients
  • Falls
  • Trauma
  • Diabetic Problems
  • Choking
  • Assisting a Health Care Professional (Technicians & Paramedics)

Our Level 4 CFR’s & Health Care Professionals can also attend;

  • Road Traffic Collisions
  • Major Trauma

As we are based within the Community in which we live or work, we can attend the scene of an Emergency in a very short time, often arriving before the attendance of an Ambulance.

In the case of Mansfield Community First Responders, 98% of cases we are the First Emergency Resource to get to the scene, often arriving within minutes of the Emergency 999 call being made.

Our CFR’s & MFR’s can then begin vital life saving treatment before the Ambulance arrives, further increasing the patient’s chance of survival. In an ideal world, there would be an Ambulance available on every street corner in each town or in every village. This is simply not the case, and is why our scheme can make such a difference in our Communities, especially in rural areas.

Mansfield Community Responders cover an area within a 10 Mile radius of each dispatch point, Although we actually cover a far greater area.

Community Training & Engagement

Mansfield Community First Responders have an active role attending emergencies and also teaching the public to help save lives! Our scheme are frequently presenting training and awareness sessions with community groups or at events. We can show you how to use a Defibrillator, provide CPR and Emergency First Aid. For younger learners we also provide information on how to make a 999 call and to be #999Wise! Check out East Midlands Ambulance Services handy guide below. If you wish us to attend or host one of these sessions please contact us!
